Social equity is an essential and legitimate aspiration of human and the core value of socialism. For over 30 years, along with the economic growth, social equity has become one of the important and prerequisite requirements in Vietnam. In the first few years of the country's comprehensive renovation, the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) has clearly and doubtlessly asserted that the economic growth should not be implemented at all costs. The Vietnamese people under the leading of the CPV have to effectively and simultaneously implement social goals such as eliminating hunger and reducing poverty, ensuring opportunities, and improving the living conditions of remoted areas and regions for the next generations. Vietnam should be consistent with the pathway to socialism. To achieve those goals, it is necessary to fight for social equity, make it the priority of social development. Social equity is not less important, but at least equal to the goal of economic growth. It is the core factor that ensures the stability of the country and the sustainability of the development. At the same time, it shows the advantage of Vietnam society that put humanity at the center of economic - social development.

This Book is the result of the international workshop held by the Institute of Philosophy of the Vietnam Academy for Social Sciences (IoP-VASS) and the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung Hanoi Office in 2019. This is not the first international workshop of the Institute of Philosophy about this topic, but the continuation of the workshops about the related topics, which were implemented three years ago. The first workshop was about equity in distribution, held in Buon Me Thuot city (Daklak province)  in 2017. The second workshop was about the relationship between social equity and democracy, held in Vinh Yen city (Vinh Phuc province) in 2018. This workshop continues to contribute to clarifying the realistic problems of implementing social equity with international and Vietnamese experience. This is an open forum for scientists, policymakers, and managers to have a chance to present, introduce, and share different approaching methods as well as research results about social equity and the implementation of social equity.
