Social Security in Vietnam

In Vietnam, the successful implementation of social security policies must take into account special factors. The country recently underwent several wars, experienced rapid development and is already facing the escalating effects of climate change. Thus, the number of people in need of social support is high, accounting for more than 20% of the total population.

Over the past years, Vietnam has built a comprehensive social security system based on five pillars: social insurance, health insurance, unemployment insurance, social relief, and social support. Yet, this system is still facing significant challenges. For example, keeping pace with urbanization or offering equal access to public services in ethnic minority areas.

Social-political organizations such as the Fatherland Front and Women's Union play a crucial role in Vietnam's political landscape. Their grassroots structures and diverse backgrounds allow them to support policy implementation. This study, conducted by the Vietnam Peace and Development Foundation, highlights specific ways in which these organizations can strengthen Vietnam's social security system.
