In her synopsis in the German language Lena-Marie Hentschel summarizes the developments on “Media freedom in Myanmar since the by-election in 2012”. The long isolated Southeast Asia country is currently in transition from a former military dictatorship towards a multiparty democracy. The opening process effects all parts of society and the suspension of the media censorship through the government was one of the remarkable developments in the last years. But, as analysed by Ms Hentschel, recent developments may have a negative impact on the transformation process.
