Covid-19's Impact on Domestic Violence

The Covid-19 pandemic has been spreading globally and exerting catastrophic impacts on various aspects of life. In Vietnam, nationwide social-distancing measures were enacted throughout most of April 2020, which led to more than 95 million people being isolated at home. However, homes are not necessarily a safer space, especially for women who are victims of domestic violence. This study was conducted from June to September 2020 combining both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. The majority of women respondents stated that all forms of violence occurred more frequently during the Covid-19 pandemic and 84% of them said that controlling behaviours took place more often. Addressing the increase of domestic violence against women during the Covid-19 pandemic requires a considerable amount of efforts from the government and active cooperation between government agencies, social organizations and communities.
